PANACEUM HOSTS THE FEDERAL HEALTH MINISTER
On Friday 2 October 09 Panaceum, Geraldton’s new “one stop shop” medical centre hosted the Hon Nicola Roxon, Federal Minister for Health. Ms Roxon was escorted on a tour of the new facility by Drs Figueidero, James-Wallace, Taylor and Slootmans, enjoying a much needed coffee from the Remedy Espresso Bar on the way!
After inspecting the facility, particularly the Allied Health section and the medical practice occupied by the Geraldton Medical Group, Ms Roxon expressed her delight that a group of forward thinking doctors with vision had achieved an effective multi disciplinary primary health care facility without Government assistance. Indeed the Geraldton model is precisely what the Government is trying to achieve with its “Superclinics”.
After the tour Ms Roxon chatted with the staff and doctors on various issues pertaining to Health in the Midwest and Australia-wide.
“It was an amazing opportunity to showcase what can be done with local expertise and discuss various issues affecting General Practice with the Minister”, said Dr Murray James-Wallace. “Ms Roxon is passionate about the future of Primary Health Care in Australia and was clearly interested in the views and suggestions of front line health professionals”.
